Top 5 posts from 2017

Over the course of 2017 The Nightly Met has covered hundreds of stories across the state of Colorado in the areas of theater, art and culture. Below are the five stories that have got the most views on our website in 2017.

Beth Beyer: A True Colorado Theater Gem

Up north in Johnstown there are two distinct theater cornerstones. The first being the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse. This unique theater has brought joy and entertainment for 10 years to the Colorado theater community. The second being the fierce and talented skill of Beth Beyer. Since this post Beyer and her family have moved out of the state but she has certainly left her mark on us this year.

Dance and conflict collide in ‘Billy Elliot’

Number four comes from Vintage Theatre’s run of “Billy Elliot the Musical.” There is no wonder that this particular production was so stunning with a cast lead by up-and-comer Kaden Hinkle. When we first reviewed this musical we said: “Hinkle brings something special to the role of Billy. He makes you connect with the character through his incredible singing, spot on acting and amazing dancing. By far one of the highlights of the show is his rendition of “Angry Dance”. Hinkle does what any good Billy Elliot does. He is able to express emotion through dance.”

Cherry Creek Theatre Announces 2018 Season

On an epiosode of The Nightly Met this year co-founders Mark and Maxine Rossman announced the ninth season for the Cherry Creek Theatre which is about to begin with the musical “Respect: A Musical Journey of Women.” This past year has been big for the company as they moved into the Mizel Arts and Culture Center and staged some moving productions such as “The Baby Dance.” Needless to say we can’t wait for 2018 to see what they do.

The classic Broadway show “42nd Street” played at Candlelight Dinner Playhouse over the summer. Avery Anderson got a chance to chat with the shows director and choreographer. Anderson also got a chance to get a tap dance lesson from the show.

A Technicolor Fantasy for their 40th Anniversary

It is easy to see why our most viewed story came from BDT Stage and their unique production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” When creating a production to celebrate their 40th anniversary the creative team did not want want to do the same old Joseph audiences had seen many times before. Instead they created something that was truly a spectacle of sight and sound.

We would say that 2017, despite being a mess of a year for most of the world, was a pretty good one for the Colorado theater community.

A Different Journey in the Woods

The classic Sondheim musical “Into the Woods” features your favorite storybook characters all in one world together. During the first act Little Red Riding Hood, Jack from “Jack in
