The Old Broad Speaks

This year, do it differently.

Remember how thankful you were during Thanksgiving? Let that be true still. Whatever you already have, decide that you don’t want more. And mean it.

And when you make holiday purchases, give two gifts. First gift: Buy from small businesses. Purchase unique items from crafters and artists. Buy those bird houses and key holders those teenagers are selling, trying to scrape a little shopping money together. Buy something from those mothers and fathers who are baking everything and anything you could want. Buy the prepackaged candy and gift cards those small kids are hustling for cash. Second gift: Give those items with sincerity, and share the story of that purchase. Explain who you bought it from and where you bought it.

And let that be enough.
